How to Fix A Dry Lip

Why do our lips get dry, cracked, and peel?

The foremost cause is generally internal dehydration. But the underlying reason is because our lips don’t have sebaceous glands! Sebaceous glands produce the oils that keep most other regions of our skin naturally hydrated.
Lips are also especially prone to getting a sunburn due to the lack of melanin (pigment) that is produced by regular skin when exposed to sunlight.

Here are two easy tips to combat dry lips and premature aging.
It doesn't get much simpler than this:

  1. Drink more water today you did yesterday, up to 4 liters. Boom.
  2. Mix a pinch of raw sugar and a teaspoon of raw honey or oil (coconut, olive, avocado, sesame, or whatever you have laying around the house)  into your hands or a small shot glass. With a small amount of this mixture on your fingertips, gently make small circular or zigzag motions all over your bottom and top lip for about 1-2 minutes. Next, mix a small amount of cocoa butter, honey, or plain yogurt with a few pieces of raw oatmeal. Coat this mixture on your lips and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Rinse clean and apply a non-toxic, hydrating lip balm. Reapply your lip balm again in an hour.

Your lips may continue to peel or flake after exfoliating because taking layers of dead skin off stimulates the growth of new skin. Be patient as this process may take a few days to regulate but WILL result in fresher, smoother, softer lips!
